The perfect drive for movable floors

The powerful MTI underwater motors from BINDER move swimming pool covers quickly, safely and almost silently. Movable floors are a particularly elegant type of cover: Hidden beneath them is a true bathing paradise.

A movable floor not only saves a lot of space – it also reduces the energy consumption of a swimming pool. Raising the floor completely keeps the heat in the pool and stops evaporation. This saves pool owners’ heating costs, water and cleaning chemicals.

Movable floors have even more advantages: the pool area can be used as a terrace, for example, when the floor is raised. In this state, the movable floor also offers a high degree of safety, as nobody can fall into the water. As the depth of a movable floor pool can be individually adjusted, a swimmer’s pool can also be transformed into a non-swimmer’s pool for the little ones in no time at all.

MTI underwater motors from BINDER are ideal for use with movable floors. The drives achieve a high level of efficiency, reach torques of up to 1,000 Nm and are completely waterproof (IP68) thanks to the nitrogen filling. BINDER manufactures the 24 V DC motors from high-quality stainless steel (1.4571 or 1.4404) with variable flange diameters. All MTI drives are equipped with a magnetic encoder that ensures simple and precise movement to the end position.

Drives are also suitable for small installation spaces
BINDER motors are very energy-efficient and quiet, so they do not disturb the neighbours. They can be used in water depths of up to 3 metres and can be conveniently operated with the MTN synchronous control system from BINDER. Synchronisation is important with a movable floor. The standard control unit has a software extension for this purpose.

Movable floor manufacturers benefit not only from the performance of the submersible motors, but also from their compact design: the drives have housing diameters of just 90 mm to 204 mm. Up to four of the motors can be installed in a movable floor.

MORE than numbers and prices: our purchasing department

What would BINDER be without its committed, competent employees? With this in mind, we’re presenting some of our departments to you, in no particular order. This time, it’s our colleagues from purchasing: they procure the high-quality materials and components for our turbine swimming systems.

Purchasing at BINDER is orientated towards the high-quality requirements of our company and ensures 100% availability of all production materials at all times. This is how we ensure reliable delivery that our partners and customers can plan with.

To ensure this, our purchasing staff work exclusively with efficient suppliers – most of whom they have been working with for many years. In the case of purchased parts with long replenishment times, we ensure material availability through long-term framework agreements with suppliers. At the same time, we build up appropriate safety stocks in our warehouse.

Although our procurement is internationally orientated, we have a strong regional focus on the European market. When we purchase goods, there is always a second source: this guarantees a continuous supply of high-quality materials for our production. Thanks to this strategy, our purchasing department has been able to fully maintain our ability to deliver even in critical times of procurement.

The quality of the procured products is always at the forefront of all cost and logistical considerations. Through regular audits of our suppliers and the continuous development of our suppliers, our purchasing professionals ensure the very high quality of incoming goods. And the environmental aspect is also very important to us and our employees, for example, we use returnable packaging that repeatedly makes its way between us and our customers.

BINDER at the autumn trade fairs

More and more pool owners are deciding to purchase a turbine swimming system from BINDER. Anyone not yet familiar with this unique technology can experience the systems at the industry’s largest European trade fair, Piscine Global in Lyon. In France, there is a demonstration pool in which the current is demonstrated live.

From 19 to 22 November, we’re heading to Lyon. This is where Piscine Global takes place, which has a permanent place in our trade fair calendar. Our colleagues at stand 5E62 are looking forward to your visit at the world’s leading trade fair for swimming pool technology!

Focus on two new products

Our new BINDER +System and the HydroStar PRO. Systems equipped with the +System do not require a network cable, as they can be quickly and easily integrated into the home network via WLAN. There is also a new control element that displays the set flow rate via LED. But that’s not all: the innovative lighting control of the BINDER +System now allows even more lighting effects to be realised with our LED lighting than before. The LED light ring and the Ambiente LED from BINDER can now be individually controlled. For example, it is possible to adjust the colour programme sequence in line with the turbine speed, training progress or the swimmer’s heart rate or stroke frequency.

We have developed HydroStar PRO especially for pool areas in leisure pools, hotels and camp sites. This turbine swimming system is ideal for use in artificial river landscapes. In these lazy rivers, HydroStar PRO creates a flow just like in a natural body of water. The operators can thus create a unique attraction for their guests.

MORE as standard: Our design department

What would BINDER be without its committed, competent employees? With this in mind, we’re presenting some of our departments to you, in no particular order. This time we’re focusing on: our design department, which specialises in the customised development of special solutions in addition to the design of products, devices and prototypes.

The typical tasks of a design engineer include the creation of drawings, parts lists and documents, as well as the maintenance of CAD and product data. Projects are handled independently, which also includes internal coordination and liaising with customers and suppliers.

Our design engineers specialise in customising our standard products, such as the special EasyStar angle, according to the specified pool geometry, as well as offset cable outlets in the installation housing, customer-specific installation housing solutions and wall ducts. One of the new developments from our design professionals is the flow-optimised poly installation housing, with all its associated components, such as the cover grille, press flange and turbine suspension.

Our design engineers either have a degree in mechanical engineering, are state-certified technicians or have a comparable qualification and are always available to answer technical questions.

BOB and MORE: Our Development department

What would BINDER be without its committed, competent employees? With this in mind, we’re presenting some of our departments to you, in no particular order. This time, it’s our colleagues who, among other things, ensure the smooth control and operation of our products: the Development department.

Natural currents and atmospheric lighting – the special BINDER swimming experience is partly the result of the innovative power of our Development department. Here, colleagues develop products from prototypes through to series production, for example complex pump and lighting control systems. The department is responsible for hardware development (housing, wiring, electronics) as well as the programming and careful testing of new products and features. Its services also include the customisation of standard products, something which requires good analysis and problem-solving skills from our employees.

In short: our electronic developments and further enhancements for private and public swimming pools originate in the Development department. Such developments also encompass the turbine technology for our counter-current systems, together with various light and motor controls, as well as measurement and control technology. We combine our technical expertise with creative thinking – this can be seen, for example, in the innovative operating concept known as BOB (Beleuchtetes Optisches Bedienfeld, which means “illuminated optical control panel” in English) or the successful BINDER24 app, with features that include the option to call up individual training programmes.

Even MORE swimming fun – with the new BINDER +System

Great news for all HydroStar fans: the BINDER +System is here! It offers numerous advantages in relation to our popular turbine swimming system.
An important component of the BINDER +System is BOB. BOB stands for Beleuchtete Optische Bedienfeld in German, which translates as an illuminated optical control panel in English. Just like our piezo switch, BOB is integrated into the pool wall and enables the turbine swimming system to be operated from the pool. The new control panel also uses LEDs to indicate the set current. This means you can always see the system’s current power level. The BOB LEDs also offer a great colour spectacle.

BOB can be synchronised directly with the BINDER24 app and can be locked to prevent accidental activation. The seam-free surface of the keypad is particularly robust and sits securely in the installation housing even without screws.

New lighting programmes The LED light ring and ambient lighting from BINDER are also made even more attractive by the BINDER +System: the improved control system enables many new lighting effects.

An indescribable swimming sensation – try it now!

Turbine-driven counterflow systems from BINDER create the feeling of swimming in a river. If you would like to test the unique current, you can do so at any time with a free trial swim. Several specialist retailers and BINDER itself offer appointments at short notice.

The flow rate of the turbine swimming systems is broad, powerful and keeps the body in balance. This allows you to concentrate fully on your technique while you swim. The counter-current systems are not only perfect for endurance swimming though; they also enhance the positive effect of wellness exercises and provide valuable support for rehabilitation. We haven’t forgotten about fun either: children love to splash around in the current of the turbine swimming systems.

BINDER offers the units in two versions: HydroStar was specially developed for installation in new pools, while EasyStar is ideal for retrofitting in existing ones. Thanks to their extremely compact design, they are quick to install. You don’t need complex pipework or a high-voltage connection. EasyStar, for example, is simply attached to the edge of the pool and firmly screwed to it. What makes the retrofit version from BINDER special is that the system has the same functions and performance as the stationary HydroStar.

Incidentally, it is not only the current that is unique, but also the low energy consumption of the turbine swimming systems: they require up to 80 percent less power than comparable systems. The units can be controlled easily by piezo switch, remote control or with the BINDER24 app.

The best way to test the counter-current systems from BINDER is a free, no-obligation trial swim. Many specialist retailers offer interested pool owners this opportunity. The systems can also be tried out all year round in the BINDER showroom in Frankfurt am Main and in a demonstration pool at the company headquarters in Hamelin.

Guarantor for our products: our quality management

What would BINDER be without its committed, competent employees? After introducing our sales department at the beginning of this series, we now turn our attention to our quality control department. In this important department, everything revolves around quality – from the product, to the application and service, right through to the process.

In order to be able to view every process in our company from a quality perspective, we have divided our quality system at an organisational level into quality assurance and quality management. Quality assurance is concerned with the operational organisation of our production. Quality management focuses on all organisational and strategic measures that serve to improve the quality of our products, services, applications or processes. The goal is to optimise the effectiveness and efficiency of our work, product and service processes across all departments.

Quality assurance tasks
The remit for quality assurance is broad and diverse. It begins with quality planning during the development and design of a product, include incoming goods inspection and quality assurance during pre- and final production and ends with the outgoing goods inspection. Other key activities include the quality control and quality testing of our products. We always keep an eye on possible ways to improve our products.

Only 100% tested products leave our company
We take random samples of incoming goods and during prefabrication to check whether the product quality is acceptable. In the final or acceptance inspection, we then carry out a 100% test, where every turbine and every engine is extensively tested. The results are stored and evaluated digitally. An inspection certificate is created for each serial number. Our control systems and switch cabinets are also fully tested before they go out to customers.

Quality assurance is therefore firmly anchored in all departments of our company. This shows the importance that we attach to quality management.
