Say goodbye to back pain:

Muscle training with BINDER counter-current systems

Back pain is part of everyday life for many people. However, it can usually be avoided with targeted strengthening of the muscles. The best way to do this is with water gymnastics using a turbine powered counter-current system from BINDER.

Gymnastics exercises in a pool

Gymnastics exercises in a swimming pool are particularly effective because you have to work against the resistance of the water. This strengthens the muscles while protecting the joints. If you add a counter-current system, you can even increase the effect of these exercises. However, the type of current is crucial: it should meet the body as broadly as possible so that many muscle groups are exercised at the same time and there is no selective strain.

Optimal conditions for back gymnastics

The turbine driven counterflow systems from BINDER generate a wide, powerful flow rate and are therefore ideally suited for water gymnastics exercises. Paralympics champion and physiotherapist Elena Semechin (née Krawzow) is enthusiastic about HydroStar and EasyStar: “Their even flow provides the ideal conditions for back training.”

And there’s one other thing the top athlete likes: “Everyone can adjust the flow strength individually and adapt it exactly to their own fitness level.”

Simple exercise with a big effect

Elena Semechin recommends a very simple exercise for the back, in which the counter-current systems from BINDER play a central role. The flow rate of the turbines increases the water resistance even further, thereby enhancing the training effect.

And here’s how it works:
„You stand with your back to the current, bend your knees slightly and make sure that your toes are pointing slightly outwards. Your arms should form a U, with your shoulder blades drawn back. Then, lean backwards against the current, tensing your lower abdomen and lower back. It’s important to stand upright while doing this, so that all your muscle groups can be exercised at the same time. I recommend doing the whole thing three times with ten to fifteen repetitions each.“

Swimming is also good for your back

In addition to special gymnastics exercises, normal swimming training is also very good for strengthening your back muscles. Backstroke is particularly helpful. It strengthens the latissimus dorsi (the large muscles in your back) and the trapezius muscles. It also trains flexibility in the shoulder area.

In general, exercising in the water is good for your joints and spinal discs because it relieves them.

Suitable for all types of pools

As you can see, it’s quite easy to do something good for your back. By the way, the turbine powered counter-current systems from BINDER are available in different designs and sizes: for new pools, there is the fixed HydroStar, and for existing pools, the EasyStar retrofit unit. Both systems have the same output and consume only 20 to 50 per cent of the energy required by pump systems. Both HydroStar and EasyStar are suitable for all types of pools – and can even be installed in natural pools!
